Andrew Nichols has been gaining valuable experience in the steel industry as a Summer Sales Intern. Adrew shared some of his thoughts on the experience:
“I’ve learned how the company manages everything from quoting and order tracking to the technical processes of steelmaking, including the hot and cold ends of the forge and advanced refining steps like Argon Oxygen Decarburization,” stated Andrew. “I’ve also developed practical skills in inventory management, customer communications, and navigating the company’s ERP system. And I have gained a deeper understanding of workplace safety and the importance of interdepartmental coordination.
Andrew had the opportunity to shadow and learn from experienced professionals in both sales and manufacturing.
“I’ve been mentored on sales strategies and company culture, been guided through quoting, customer meetings, and order management, and learned about the challenges of production planning and teamwork,” said Andrew. “From a production standpoint I’ve received an education in the technical/operational aspects of specialty steel production, forging and safety protocols.”
Andrew also experienced the Electralloy culture of pride and determination to excel.
“I’ve also been impressed by how passionate and knowledgeable the long-time employees are—there’s a real pride in doing things the right way and their willingness to share their expertise has made learning the ropes much easier,” said Andrew. “Lastly, the opportunity to contribute fresh ideas has shown me that even in a traditional environment, creativity and innovation must be valued.”
