Electralloy has announced that the remelt shop expansion—which was initiated in September of 2011—is proceeding according to plan.
A new Vacuum Arc Remelt (VAR) furnace—the first of three new remelt furnaces—is scheduled to come on line in late April. A concrete timeline for the completion and start up of the additional two remelt furnaces has not yet been determined.
VAR product is often consumed in the power generation, oil/gas, chemical and commercial aerospace industries.
To accommodate the new remelt furnaces, a new 10,000 square foot facility was added to the existing remelt building which currently houses five VAR furnaces and one ESR remelt furnace.
The remelt expansion will significantly increase Electralloy’s production capacity, allowing the company to better serve customers in the forging and ring rolling markets.
AOD refined electrodes are remelted using Electralloy’s state of the art, fully computer controlled Vacuum Arc Remelt (VAR) furnaces. The process results in consistently higher yields, improved hot workability and predictable/reproducible alloys remelt after remelt after remelt. VAR ingots are denser, with fine grain and exhibit superior cleanliness, higher physical properties, higher corrosion and electrical resistance with lower gas content than standard air melt products of the same type and size. Electralloy can provide the following:
VAR crucible sizes include: 20”, 22”, 24”, 30”, 33”, 36” and 40” rounds
ESR crucible sizes include 20”, 24”, 30”, 36”, 40”, 44” rounds and 12” X 42” and 20” X 55” rectangular
